Apple's M1 Chip and the Future of PC Processors

Exactly 3 years ago, the PC industry revolutionized because Apple launched the Apple M1 chip. And Apple M1 chip was so groundbreaking that today Apple has completely broken ties with Intel and And they just put their own processors in their computers. And this revolution is so big that I can only compare it with Apple's iPhone. Because when iPhone 1 was launched, the entire mobile phone industry was shaken. I'm telling you the truth. When Apple launched its Apple Silicon, the entire industry was shaken. And in the last 3 years, all the big companies including Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Nvidia, and even Qualcomm are trying their best to see how we can compete with Apple's Apple Silicon, Apple's M1 chip.

In short, if I explain to you what Apple does and why it is important, then I will explain with a example. What is the difference between a computer processor, i.e. a PC vs a mobile phone processor? Look, the PC is based on x86 architecture, in which you will get see heavy performance. That is, if you want to run very big games, do high-end tasks, do very complex things, you can do things in an x86 processor. The problem is that it takes a lot of power. If you put such a processor in a mobile phone, the small battery of the mobile phone will die in a On top of that, it is also very hot. It needs a proper fan, a cooling system. This is the biggest problem. Because if you put it in a mobile phone, then you will have to put a cooling battery in the mobile And this is one of the core reasons why Intel's processors have never been able to run on a mobile They did not get much success. And what are the processors in a mobile phone? They are basically based on the design of an ARM company. In which a company gives its design and Qualcomm MediaTek makes its own processor. And in that processor, you may not get as much performance, i.e. at the computer desktop level. But in return, you will get a good battery life. There will not be much heating here. And it will be a little efficient, it will be a little small. It can run in a thin form factor. But Apple did the same thing. What did he do? Let's take the performance of the desktop level. But we will take the energy efficiency as you get to see on a mobile phone. And by combining these two things, Apple presented it. Before this, many people tried to do this work, but no one was successful. But Apple was the first company to do the technically impossible task.

And the result of this was that Apple's M1 chip came, its MacBooks came. And they were literally very good. I myself have an M1 Pro MacBook at the time of today. I also have an M1 MacBook Pro. It runs very well. Even the first MacBook Air was not even a fan. And at the time of today, that laptop is so good that someone has to use it for hours. You will get an amazing battery life. You will not even see the heating. In addition, the performance will also be good. Even after 13 years, it is running very well at the time of today. And it will continue to run better for the next few years. There will be no problem in it.

And this is where the whole story begins. That such a thing was made that the rest of the companies were in danger. And all the companies have now decided that why don't we fight Apple's silicon with it. So first of all, Apple's M1 chip came here in 2020. But in 2021, your Windows 11 came. Now if I tell you about Windows 11, then it was in the pipeline for a long time. And Windows 10 had to be upgraded. But they never thought that we would see such a competition here. That's why Windows 11 is still based on the traditional architecture of the PC x86. And it is still running on PCs. So this is one thing that was going on with Windows. But if we talk about it, we have got a lot of hints from Windows 12. That it will be designed for ARM-based processors. That is, the processor that will be in the design of the mobile phone. And it can run on it well. That is, the upcoming new processor that the companies are going to launch. It is being prepared for them. With this, one more feature of Windows 12 will be that it will bring AI capabilities. But now you will say that AI capabilities also come in Windows 11. Although the difference this time will be that Windows 12 will bring AI in itself. That is, you don't need to connect to the internet. Whatever AI tasks are there, your Windows 12 will do it in your PC.

But there is a twist in the story. All this will be possible because of the next generation of processors. Look, when the M1 chip came in 2020. After that, at the beginning of 2021, Qualcomm acquired the company here, Nuvia. And most people don't know about the Nuvia company. Nuvia was a company that was started by ex-Apple employees. And these were the engineers of Apple who worked on Apple's Bionic processor for the iPhone. So they know how Apple's processor works. But Qualcomm said, you come inside us and work with us. So Qualcomm took Nuvia inside itself. And now they have taken out Qualcomm's processor here. Which will be based on their Orion CPU. And this processor is called Snapdragon X Elite. And the special thing about Snapdragon X Elite is that it will work for Windows.

What Apple's M1 chip did here for Mac OS. That is, you will see amazing performance. You will see less heating. And you will also see less battery drain. And when Qualcomm compared Snapdragon X Elite here with Apple's M2 Max chip. So the benchmarking scores were very high. The surprising thing was that for high performance, their energy consumption was 30% lower. The thing was very good. And they were comparing it with M2 Max. Because when Qualcomm was releasing it. Until then, Apple had not announced the M3 chip here. And when the event of Qualcomm took place. A few days later, Apple took out its M3 chip. And the special thing about the M3 chip was that it was faster than before. And the lack of GPU in the M1 and M2 chips. Fixed it here. And said that earlier we had made a desktop-level CPU. Now we have made a desktop-level GPU. In which ray tracing is also possible. You can also play games on it. So Apple is doing its job. But Snapdragon X Elite has already got competition here.

Here Qualcomm had told about some special things. First of all, they were working with different manufacturers for this. Including Microsoft, Lenovo, Dell. Such companies. Even its testing has been done on Windows 11, Linux. And along with it, it has been done on an unspecified Windows OS. Which most probably can be Windows 12. If the process of this type is coming. Then the entire Windows will also have to be changed internally. And Windows 12 can be the next big thing in the PC industry.

Snapdragon is just a small part. But it was also found out from recent reports. Companies like NVIDIA and AMD are now working on similar design processors. And they will also take out their own processors. Here the competition is not just Intel vs AMD. Here there is also AMD, NVIDIA and Qualcomm. And along with it, talk about Intel. So from Intel's side, it was not officially said that ARM chips will come. But some deals and partnerships have been done with ARM. Maybe they can also work on their ARM technology. However, at this time, Intel is going to bring its Meteor Lake processor. In which you will get Intel Core Ultra branding. That is, i3, i5, i7, etc. Now you will get to get Ultra 7, Ultra 9, Ultra 5, etc. So Intel is also working here. And maybe that too is on this thing.

But there is a question here. If such a big shift came inside Windows. The old software that has been running for so many years. How will their compatibility be? This is a question. Apple solved this thing with Rosetta 2. And with Apple, there was a benefit here. That it makes its own hardware software. And it can integrate it very well. And here too, it seems that somewhere micro software chip makers will have to work together. The special thing about new chips is that they will bring AI capabilities inside them. And as I told you that Windows 12 AI will be focused. And he will be able to do that task in the AI PC. It is possible that this is only possible with these chips. Because Snapdragon X Elite has been implemented in them.

These processors of the new type will be mostly designed for laptops. As compared to desktops. It won't happen that a proper high-end desktop has a processor for the server. Replace it totally. This is just like Apple Silicon. Like Apple's M1 chip came first for Macbook. Same all these processors will be first for the laptop. After that, the desktop server level will go ahead.
